Just in time for a presidential election that will determine the character of the United States for generations to come, the 30th season of Defending Life will premiere Sept. 21 on EWTN.

Created by Priests for Life in 1994 at the direct request of EWTN founder Mother Angelica to Fr. Frank Pavone, Defending Life is the longest-running, farthest-reaching show ever aired about abortion.

Returning as co-hosts this season will be Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, and Father Stephen Imbarrato, pastoral associate at Priests for Life. Father Frank Pavone, National Director, is the creative director of the series.

The first three episodes will focus on the November elections.

“Voting with a Clear Conscience” will give viewers 10 easy steps to understanding how to apply Church teaching at the ballot box. “Ten Responses to Pro-Abortion Politicians” will teach viewers how best to respond to lawmakers and their lies. “The Vote for Life Campaign” will focus on faithful citizenship that includes taking action to change the political landscape of the nation.

Other topics to be discussed will include: Choosing life despite being homeless; Obamacare and the HHS mandate, and the “Death with Dignity” scandal.

“On Defending Life, we take on the most pressing life issues and we not only educate, but activate as well,” Father Pavone said.

Mrs. Morana, who is also the co-host of EWTN’s The Catholic View for Women, said the series highlights the work of pro-lifers across the country.

“We want viewers to know what might be happening right in their backyard, and we want them to get involved,” she said.

Also known as “The Protest Priest,” Father Imbarrato said he appreciated Pope Francis’s recent comments to young people that “we didn’t come into the world to vegetate … We came for another reason: to leave a mark.”
Father Imbarrato said: “When you watch Defending Life, you’ll have a clear idea of how to leave a mark for the unborn and the vulnerable.”

Defending Life airs Wednesdays at 3 a.m. ET and Thursdays at 11 p.m. ET, and also can be streamed online at by clicking on the “television” tab. Find out more on www.DefendingLife.TV.

Priests for Life Petitioners Comment on HHS Case

Wednesday, April 13th, 2016

Date: April 13, 2016

Contact: Leslie Palma

WASHINGTON, DC — The petitioners in Priests for Life vs. HHS, one of the Supreme Court cases consolidated into Zubik vs. Burwell, commented today on the supplemental briefs submitted to the Supreme Court yesterday. Both the petitioners and the government were responding to questions posed in a March 29 order of the Court.

Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, said: “From the beginning of this case, I have made it clear that I will not sign any forms that authorize our insurance company to cover these objectionable services in the health insurance we offer our employees. This case is not about the actions of third-parties. What the insurance company or the government will do without any authorization or involvement from us is one thing; what they try to force us to do is quite another.”

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King, Jr. and full-time director of Civil Rights for the Unborn (the African-American outreach of Priests for Life), said, “Women’s reproductive issues are very complex. Forcing us to provide contraception will never resolve a woman’s deepest issues. There once was a woman with an issue of blood and Christ became her healer. May the church rise up and serve our women or else the government will continue to destroy our greatest blessings.”

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, stated, “The Court has asked us the right question. They asked us to draw the line, as believers, between behavior that is acceptable and behavior that is unacceptable to our faith. We have done so. Now it remains for the Court to rule to protect our freedom to live that faith by being able to choose freely what kind of insurance coverage we offer to our employees.”

Priests for Life, the largest Catholic organization focused on ending abortion, was the first of the 37 petitioners in Zubik vs. Burwell to challenge the HHS mandate in court.

The petitioners’ brief is here. The government’s brief is here. The Court order requesting the briefs is here.

Priests for Life is conducting a nationwide prayer campaign at for a favorable outcome in this case. For more information about the case, see

Yes Sheriff Clark, I agree. My New Year’s Affirmation: Black Lives, All Lives Matter

Friends, this is the very last day of 2014. What a tumultuous yet victorious year it has been. What with Ferguson, Staten Island, Isis, Rumors of Wars, Untold Greed, Poverty and Lack. Oh my goodness! Yet all is not lost! As I declare this truth, and while I have some “New Year’s Resolutions,” I also have some “New Year’s Affirmations.”

First, I affirm that Jesus is truly Lord! For me that’s self explanatory.

141231 blog imageASecond, Black lives matter; all lives matter. In the midst of the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, the notorious Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest and most wealthy abortion provider, picked up the slogan, BLACK LIVES MATTER. The resounding outcry of outrage against their hypocrisy is still resonating. How can PPH help slaughter over 55 million babies legally, with nearly 1/3 of their victims being Black babies, and then proclaim that Black lives matter?

Yes, much attention has been given to this mantra this year. Most recently a bold affirmation from Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke, an African American law official, told CNN: “When I hear these things – that Black lives matter, the only people who really believe that statement are American police officers who go into American ghettos every day to keep people from killing each other…. Look, the abortions? If Black lives – if they really mattered, that’s where the outrage would be that’s where we’d see protests….” He also tweeted to a New York Times reporter, “If only these faux protesters were asked by media about all the black on black killing or black babies aborted in US every year.”

Yes Sheriff Clark. Thank you for speaking truth to power!

141231 blog image3My friends and colleagues, Janet Morana and Kevin Burke, LSW, blogged about a recent article in Rolling Stone Magazine where Nicki Minaj’s shares that she had an abortion. It’s too bad she didn’t have some help that may have resulted in her having her baby because her baby’s life matters. You can read their blog HERE.

Friends, there is much work ahead of us as we put 2014 behind us. Let’s pray together and get ready!

For starters, please pray for us and join us early in 2015:

DC on January 8, 2015 for “Shockwaves” Kick-Off
Atlanta, MLK Week January 12-19, 2015 at
Dallas, TX on January 15, 2015 at
DC on January 21, 2015 for prolife youth rally at
DC in January on January 22, 2015 at and
Issues4Life Foundation Day, January 23, 2015 and Walk for Life January 24, 2015 at

Friends, I have other resolutions and affirmations and you will be hearing from me throughout the year. For updates on events and schedules, check out,, and during the year regarding how together we can make a difference in the coming days. God bless you and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

NEW YORK, NY – EWTN viewers will get an inside look at the important work being done by Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries when the 24th season of Defending Life has its premiere this week.

Hosted by Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, and Father Denis Wilde, OSA, Associate Director of Priests for Life, the show will air at 2:30 a.m. ET every Wednesday and 11 p.m. ET every Thursday. Those tuning in by radio can hear the show at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday.

The new season’s 13 episodes will introduce viewers to the Priests for Life Pastoral Team, including Bryan Kemper, the Youth Outreach Director, and Dr. Alveda King, Director of African American Outreach. Gospel of Life Ministries’ work around the globe will be highlighted by Bob Lalonde, Director of International Outreach for Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries. Mr. Lalonde also will discuss the work of the Parliamentary Network for Critical Issues, which falls under Gospel of Life Ministries. Mrs. Morana’s book “Recall Abortion” will be explored.

Other guests to appear during the season will include Wendy Wright of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, and Monica Miller of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and author of “Abandoned,” who will discuss her work in recovering the bodies of aborted babies. Couples who have shared an abortion experience and now speak out as part of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign will be featured in the season’s final two episodes.

Defending Life was born from a conversation Mother Angelica and I had in 1994,” Father Pavone recalled. “We were in her office discussing my pro-life work. She told me, ‘We need to have you tape a series on abortion!’ She picked up the phone right then and there, talked to one of the producers, and we scheduled it!”

Here’s some feedback Defending Life has received from viewers over the years.

“I had my own terrible experience with abortion years ago, but have experienced healing through Christ with His Church. I am a big fan of Father Pavone and enjoy watching Defending Life on EWTN. Thank you so much for your words of love and encouragement and hope.”

“I heard your TV program. I am a retired attorney and I work hard to save the lives of unborn children and the elderly. Your program put great arguments in my mind and I will use them.”

“The night before I was going to have an abortion, something woke me up and I saw your Defending Life program. Now I’m having my baby.”

Mrs. Morana noted that leaders of pro-life groups have told her they use the show to open their meetings and jump-start their planning on various projects.

“Every show contains good information that groups can adapt to their own needs,” she said. “Priests for Life also has resources that are available to the public to help individuals and groups increase their pro-life activism. In turn, we ask those groups to help us promote the show by announcing it on their social media sites and in their parishes.”

New season of “Defending Life” debuts July 31 on EWTN

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013

Priests for Life

July 24, 2013

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, has announced that an exciting new season of “Defending Life” featuring dynamic guests and provocative topics will begin airing July 31 on EWTN.

Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, and Father Scott Daniels, O.P., a Priest Associate of the ministry, will co-host this 23rd Season, which will air at 2:30 a.m. Wednesdays and 11 p.m. Thursdays. Additional broadcast times and other information is at DefendingLife.TV.

Defending Life is the longest-running and farthest-reaching series on abortion ever produced by either side of the abortion debate. It airs on the world’s largest religious media outlet. Fr. Frank Pavone began taping it in 1994 at the personal invitation of EWTN Foundress Mother Angelica.

In one episode, Mrs. Morana and Father Daniels will take an unflinching look at D&E abortion, the dismemberment procedure most often performed in the second trimester of pregnancy. This topic is particularly relevant today as more states pass laws to protect children from abortion after 20 weeks of development.

Another episode focuses on Mrs. Morana’s new book, “Recall Abortion,” and the double meaning of the word “recall” as in “remember” and as in removing a harmful product from the market.

And in a third episode, you will hear Naomi Barber King, sister-in-law of Martin Luther King Jr. , make history as she declares in Washington, DC that the “Beloved Community” includes the unborn child!

Other guests in this season include Peggy Hartshorn, president of Heartbeat International; Charmaine Yoest, president and CEO of Americans United for Life; Jeanneane Maxon, former general counsel for Carenet, and Victoria Hearst, granddaughter of media magnate William Randolph Hearst, who will discuss her transition from pro-choice to pro-life. Monsignor Philip Reilly, founder of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants, will talk about his ministry, and David Rosa, a post-abortive dad, will discuss a powerful new movement to acknowledge the regret men feel for involvement in abortion.

“We are very excited about this season,” said Mrs. Morana, who is also the co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign and co-host of EWTN’s “The Catholic View for Women.” “Viewers will learn more about topics in the forefront of today’s pro-life movement. They will gain powerful talking points and a clearer understanding that abortion is the real war against women,” she said.

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said each season is designed to provide a realistic look at the many dimensions of the tragedy of abortion, and the progress the pro-life movement is making to counteract it.

“Our goal is to energize and empower every viewer to go out and redouble their efforts on behalf of the unborn,” Father Pavone said. “We are winning this fight!”

Recall Abortion offers a unique look at America’s most divisive issue

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013

recall-abortionAmericans are savvy consumers. When a product does not live up to its promise, we boycott, we sue and finally, we demand a government recall. Forty years ago, Americans were sold a new product: Legal abortion. We were assured that legal, accessible abortion on demand was needed to elevate the rights of women and improve the lives of children. We believed these lies and we lined up outside clinics to buy this product.

But abortion has exploited women, not empowered them. Abortion has allowed us to see children as commodities whose very existence depends on our whim. Abortion has killed more than 50 million unborn Americans and left millions of their mothers wounded, emotionally and physically.

Isn’t it time to recall abortion?

Recall Abortion, the first book by longtime pro-life activist Janet Morana, examines the societal changes that led to legal abortion and the lies that ensure it continues to be one of the most common medical procedures for women. Through research, interviews with medical professionals and testimonies of women who have had abortions, Ms. Morana takes apart the myth that abortion is safe and necessary health-care and shows the abortion industry for what it is: A profit-driven, unscrupulous and often criminal enterprise that victimizes women.

Catholic author and syndicated talk-show host Teresa Tomeo believes Recall Abortion “will put abortion right where it belongs, on a worldwide ‘Hall of Shame’ episode and the top of the recall list.” Wendy Wright of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) says the book “provides a compelling case against the primary selling points for abortion.”

The book will be available Jan. 22 from St. Benedict’s Press and can be pre-ordered now for $20 per copy at

In his foreword for Recall Abortion, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, wrote: “If we start with a listening heart and a dose of good will, we can see a common question bridging the pro-life, pro-choice divide and uniting those who care about women. The question is: What does abortion do to those who undergo it? What kind of promises does it make, and does it deliver on those promises?

Those questions, which cut right to the heart of the abortion debate, are answered in Recall Abortion.

Janet Morana is the executive director of Priests for Life, co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, and co-host of EWTN’s “Defending Life” and “The Catholic View for Women.” To arrange an interview, call Leslie Palma or Andre Kim at 347-286-7277 or send an email to
