Let Mercy and Justice Prevail for Gosnell and for the Babies

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

I’ve been paying close attention to the murder trial of late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, both by going to Philadelphia and be reading about the proceedings and watching the news, such as it is. And like so many others, I have been angry about the atrocities Gosnell perpetrated on so many women and babies, and rightfully so.

But I have also watched and seen how so many people are SO angry that they want vengeance, payback, an eye for an eye. The horrible things that Gosnell did to the poor defenseless babies and their mothers has stirred the emotions of so many that we see some people lashing out before they can even pray.

Last week on Facebook I posed a question asking people if they thought that Gosnell deserved the death penalty if found guilty of murdering the mother and babies. Most said yes and not only yes but ‘H’ ‘E’ double hockey sticks yes. Some thought he should have his own spine ‘snipped’ as he did to hose babies.

And then there’s my good friend Bryan Kemper who keeps saying that we need to ‘pray for Gosnell’s soul.’ These prayers help bring everything into perspective. Father Pavone is even asked if he could see Gosnell to talk to him and is willing to pray with Gosnell if it is allowed.

If we profess to be people of God and we believe that life is for God to give and to take, then we must also believe as it is written in Romans 12:19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

It is a hard thing to do, to love someone like Gosnell. But remember that even Gosnell was made in the image of God. He may have turned his back on God. He may have hardened his heart. He may not even want to repent. But that is between him and God. We are only called to love him and pray for him.

I want justice for the babies and the mothers that he hurt and killed but I also want mercy for his soul. Life in prison will give him an opportunity to hear about the mercy of God and give him a chance to repent of the evil he has committed.

”This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. – Zechariah 7:9

Dear Lord, I pray that Kermit Gosnell gets the punishment he deserves. I also pray for the soul of Kermit Gosnell and that, through the love he is shown, in spite of his lack of showing love to others, he may repent of all his sins and beg for forgiveness which we know you will grant him. And I pray that when it’s my time to stand before You for judgment, that You will show me the same mercy You show to Gosnell. I ask this through Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen!

Gosnell Horrors Reveal America’s Trauma

Friday, April 26th, 2013

I asked Kevin Burke, author of REDEEMING A FATHER’S HEART and co founder of abortion healing ministry Rachael’s Vineyard this:

Why is mass grieving over tragedies like 911, Katrina, Sandy Hook and more recently the child who lost a leg in the Boston Marathon Bombing acceptable while public outcry over the loss of the babies killed by Gosnell, one of who’s leg and foot floating in a jar was recovered by investigators not acceptably comparable?

His answer: “Guilt denies post abortive sufferers from receiving relief from the trauma of their abortions, so they transfer their reactions to less personal tragedies. For instance, in his testimony, John writes:

I was not like those brave men, the fire fighters, police and rescue personnel of 9-11 who risked their lives while trying to save others. I began to see that though it was right to desire justice for the victims and the community devastated by the terrorist attack, I was also infusing a lot of my own personal anger, grief and guilt onto this very powerful public event. I was permitted to feel grief, compassion and solidarity with the victims…which is a good thing of course.

John allowed himself to grieve with the masses, yet was only able to grieve his lost fatherhood after admitting the pain abortion had on his life and accepting subsequent forgiveness and healing.

Read more HERE.

According to Kevin, this same type of trauma impacts the witnesses and jurors of the Gosnell trial.

“I hope that the jurors lawyers and other court personnel receive the counseling and support they need to process this traumatic material, and find healthy strategies to deal with any symptoms. Some of them no doubt have experienced their own abortions. In this case they would be experiencing traumatic triggering on a regular basis and have to process not only the traumatic material of the trial, but their own emotions and memories of a personal abortion,” Kevin explained. Read more HERE.

Let us pray for America’s trauma over the loss of over 50 million babies to the horrors if abortion most recently exposed in the case of Gosnell’s House of Horrors.

Liberals are wondering…

Thursday, April 25th, 2013

I had a phone call this week from a very agitated African American leader from the liberal community who asked me, “What are you pro-lifers going to do about President Obama speaking for Planned Parenthood in the middle of the Gosnell trial?”

Now we know that the latest developments say that the Gosnell defense rested. We also know that President Obama is not going to speak at the big Fundraising Gala on Thursday night but will instead speak at a lesser event on Friday morning. Those things have unfolded.

But as to what is now being defined as the growing “mushy middle” we’re finding that some liberals and some conservatives are having the same questions.

I read a USA Today article recently and then I read the comments and it seemed that members of the liberal community and conservative community are asking those same questions in that USA Today article.

I think it’s very interesting that sometimes when peripherals collide, convergence is eminent.

So the issue of President Obama’s support of Planned Parenthood can be a peripheral issue for many but some of us, regardless of what camp we are considered to be in; many are asking the same questions.

Okay, let’s continue to seek truth. Remember: Truth, Crushed to Earth, Shall Rise Again.

Pray for Justice and Gosnell’s Soul as Trial Rapidly Approaches a Close

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

130218 blog image

Today the defense rested their case with Gosnell deciding not to testify in his own defense and not calling a single witness.

Closing arguments will begin on Monday and then it’s up to the jury to come up with a just verdict.

In the meantime, everyone needs to continue to keep tweeting and posting statuses on Facebook to keep this case and the atrocities that occurred in the West Philadelphia Women’s Medical Society in the forefront of the media.

Some material for Twitter and Facebook:

Tomorrow on C-Span at 5:00 pm ET Members of Congress will be giving one minute speeches from the floor of the Capital about Gosnell and the trial. You can watch live at or on C-Span on cable. Please get the work out to all your friends and acquaintances.

Get the word out: Fox News is doing a documentary on Gosnell that will air on Sunday, May 5 at 9:00 pm ET following Huckabee.

There are still many in America that still don’t know the harm abortion does to babies, women, men, the family, and our nation. We need to remain diligent in education the public.

Pro-Life Leaders Release an Open Letter to All Americans

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

Priests for Life

Date: April 23, 2013

Contact: Leslie Palma

More than three dozen leaders of national pro-life organizations from across the country have signed a letter calling on all Americans to take note of the ongoing murder trial of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, because the horrors described daily in the courtroom “represent the precise reality of the state of the abortion industry today in our country.”

The letter was released just before news broke that the judge presiding over the Gosnell trial had dismissed three of the murder charges against him, as well as several lesser charges. Gosnell still faces four counts of first-degree murder of babies born alive, third-degree murder of a patient who died of a drug overdose following a botched 2009 abortion, and multiple counts of performing late-term abortions past the legal limit in Pennsylvania.

“Despite the graphic nature of the testimony that could only come from the darkest depths of human depravity, we the undersigned have further evidence that abortionist Gosnell’s practices are reflective of abuses that characterize the entire abortion industry,” the signatories wrote. “These abuses have been documented for decades through law enforcement activities, news reports, court documents, lawsuits, undercover investigations, and testimonies of former abortionists and their clients.

Forty years of abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy has not brought women more dignity, made them freer, or advanced their equality. Instead, as the trial of abortionist Gosnell cruelly testifies, abortion has made women the subject of predatory practices, ugly disfigurement, gruesome deaths, and conditions not even fitting for animals.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, spearheaded the campaign and is among the leaders who signed the open letter.

“We have an opportunity to show people the true nature of abortion, the true meaning of ‘choice,’“ Father Pavone said. “We must seize this moment to make sure everyone understands that what happened in Gosnell’s clinic has been happening all over the country for the last 40 years.”

Dr. Alveda King on Site at Gosnell Trial

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013
Alveda King and Bryan Kemper at the murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell

Alveda King and Bryan Kemper at the murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell

Breaking report: Gosnell still charged with 4 counts baby murder and one adult; violation of 24 hour notice. He was acquitted of three baby murders and all 5 charges of abuse of corpse.

Many seem to agree that the atrocities at the West Philadelphia Women’s Medical Society perpetrated by late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell should never have occurred and that Gosnell deserves to be punished.

At least that’s what’s unfolding now that the trial has been brought to the forefront of the nation by efforts of life affirming bloggers and social media advocates.

In the opening update above, we see that the judge agreed with some of the charges which could still cause Gosnell to be punished for some of the terrible things he has done, just some.

It’s a tragedy that unjust legal loopholes like unclear evidence of issues like gestational age and size made partial acquittal possible. Our laws are too corrupt and weak to fully protect the human rights and dignity of our babies and their vulnerable mothers.

Prior to a TweetFest on Friday, April 12 and then again on Wednesday, April 17 organized by Bryan Kemper, youth director of Priests for Life, and Andy Moore, AbortionWiki, there seemed to be a media blackout of the trial. Additionally, almost nobody from the pro-abortion movement was saying anything either.

Finally, liberals had the guts to admit that they were squashing the story.

Now that the media has been moved into covering the trial many are all too eager to comment and condemn the actions of abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Unfortunately, still grappling with the injustice of it all, some don’t stop there.

Trapped into what is currently being defined as the growing “mushy middle,” they then go on to spin their lies by blaming pro-life activists for the creation of such a monster by all the pro-life legislation being promoted to better regulate the abortion industry and enforce regulations that already exist.

Don’t be deceived by spin when they say that Gosnell is the exception: he’s not. Gosnell is NOT the exception to the bogus rule that abortion is safe and rare. 2,000 women, including me, have filed an Amicus brief with the US Supreme Court about how abortion hurt us.

They say that Gosnell is a throwback to pre Roe v Wade days and back alley abortions: he’s not. This is happening now, post Roe v Wade. In Sunday’s Washington Post, some are still saying that abortion ranks high among safe med procedures–they are accusing Gosnell of being a back alley abortionist and an exception to the rule.

WRONG! As Father Frank Pavone says, “Gosnell is the rule!” These types of atrocities are happening all over America right now in under and unregulated abortion mills.

Gosnell is NOT the only one committing these atrocities. Hundreds of women have died from legal abortions. A list of nearly 400 is currently on file and can be viewed at The new documentary, Voice of John, the Florida case of the live baby thrown on the roof, and a new website, are but a few examples of unsafe and definitely not rare abortions.

David Grimes, former head of CDC abortion surveillance branch said recently that the problems with abortion are so small the CDC surveillance branch NO LONGER EXISTS. He said over 1000 women/yr. died from abortion in 1940s and it’s less than a handful a year.

On the contrary, we know that there’s a really big handful of hurts from abortion yearly. SILENTNOMOREAWARENESS.ORG has the testimonies of hundreds upon hundreds of women that have been harmed by abortion.

Rachael’s Vineyard ministry, healing after abortion, now offers over 950 healing retreats annually in 48 states and 57 countries, to help women and men that have been harmed by abortion. Their retreat manual has been translated into 22 languages. (Figures as of 2012)

So don’t believe lies and half truths. Abortion is evil. Abortion hurts women and kills human persons (babies and mothers). Abortion must be abolished. Gosnell is just the tip of the iceberg quickly melting in the fires of truth.

Alveda Day and other pro-life leaders

I’m with a PFL TEAM at the murder trial for abortionist Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia, PA. See photo with Day Gardner and other pro-life leaders. [sorry about the quality]

The trial was postponed because the defense attorney is sick. If the attorney is able to work tomorrow I will be here reporting on the proceedings.

Make sure to follow on FB and Twitter for updates. In the meantime read this great blog from my co-worker Kevin Burke, MSS/LSW who offers a unique perspective that you aren’t seeing anyone else report.

Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here: A Descent Into Hell and Trauma at the Gosnell Trial

I spent April 18th 2013 inside a Philadelphia Courtroom with the notorious late term abortionist Kermit Gosnell along with lawyers, jurors, court personnel and witness Kareena Cross who worked at Gosnell’s “medical center.” Ms Cross presented the majority of the testimony of that day.

Based on that experience, I am recommending that a warning banner be posted above the entrance to the courtroom with the chilling words the poet Dante placed at the entrance to the gates of Hell in his epic Divine Comedy…Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here. Dante’s epitaph would also have been well placed at the entrance to the Gosnell Women’s Medical Center in West Philadelphia as an impassioned plea to dissuade all the unfortunate mothers and their unborn children from entering this place of darkness.

To call Gosnell’s abortion business a medical center is like . . .

“42” Stirs the Heart and the Conscience

Friday, April 19th, 2013

three headed monster

While I’m often accused of finding Pro-Life messages behind every tree, it can’t be denied that “42” brings an inherent message of courage, compassion and composure that prevailed in the lives of Jackie and Rae Robinson as well as Dodgers Manager Branch Rickey. These same principles are needed so much in the ongoing heated moral debates of our time.

While the skin color/racism devil is somewhat subdued today, it still rears its ugly head. Then we are also contending with moral questions surrounding the sanctity of natural life and marriage. This “three headed monster” of racism, anti-procreative liberty and sexual perversion has crept into our lives with the intent of leading us further astray.

This is why the movie 42 is so inspiring; and the themes of racial unity, nonviolence, marital fidelity and Christianity are so very refreshing. They apply to our present day struggles; while they stir our hearts and rouse our conscience.

Today, we are fraught with unjust laws such as legal abortion – the killing of human babies in the womb. Where is the justice for the babies?

Uncle M. L., Jackie and Rae Robinson and Branch Rickey challenged the immoral unwritten laws of their day. We cannot afford to do less in Century 21. Uncle M. L. once said “a just law squares with the law of God.”

God’s Word is God’s law. The Bible charges us to love each other, and that law transcends human efforts to redesign God’s plan for continuity.

Jackie Robinson left the Dodgers the year after Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat in Montgomery. Yet that wasn’t the end of the baseball great’s mission to advance civil rights. He became a statesman and defender of my uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I know that Robinson was a super ball player and Rickey was a phenomenal businessman. But they were so much more than that. They dealt with the human issues if their day.

The movie 42 has heart. We could all learn a lot from their examples of courage, composure and compassion.

Poor Excuse for a Butcher

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

Today I bring you a guest blog from my good friend and colleague.

By Ryan Bomberger, Radiance Foundation
April 15, 2013

Mainstream media and especially pro-abortion liberal opinionists are desperate to control the narrative on the horrific abortionist, Kermit Gosnell. Ignoring the fact that he is not the exception, but increasingly the rule among abortionists, “pro-choice” media is trying to segregate this case, to isolate the public from the broader truth—that Gosnell is the natural consequence of rabid pro-abortion advocacy.

So the Associated Press, along with HuffPo and other mainstream media outlets are claiming that the poor women who went to the “elegant man” (aka Gosnell) had no choice. They bemoan that Gosnell’s workers had “few options” (because most of Philly’s employed choose jobs where they brutally cut people’s spinal cords and toss around their lifeless bodies like play objects). And they accuse the prolife movement, who has always pushed for abortion clinic regulations and enforcement, of somehow creating Gosnell’s situation. NARAL lamented Gosnell was a “peek into the world before Roe”. No. It’s a peek into the world of limitless abortion (as championed by NARAL, Planned Parenthood, NOW, and other rabidly pro-abortion groups), with no regard for the lives of women and children.

Amanda Marcotte, pro-abortion apologist who writes for and the pathologically dishonest, writes how simple the reason for Gosnell is: “poverty, plus lack of access due to anti-choice activism.”

What a poor excuse. No, really. What a pathetically poor excuse. Philadelphia, which doesn’t record or publish any data on abortion in its city, has no idea who is seeking abortions. In other states/cities that actually track this vital data (like Georgia), college students in attempts to hide who they are, often list themselves as poor or needing financial aid when seeking abortions, which grossly exaggerates the genuine “poverty” status of those having abortions. Even if every patient who went to Gosnell were poor, do we know the repeat abortion rate of his victims? Do we know if they remained trapped in the cycle of poverty? Do we know how many were on Medicaid? Marcotte and her abortion cohorts can make up stuff all they want, but they can’t conjure a reality where abortion magically cures poverty or strengthens women shackled by circumstances unimproved by killing the life within them.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, women (ages 18-64) are . . .

Gun Control? Knife Control? Bomb Control? or Heart Control?

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

Explosion at Boston marathon

Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one. But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them. (Psalms 2:1, 2, 4 NLT)

Gun Control? Knife Control? Bomb Control? Now what? How about Heart Control?

When news of the recent Boston Marathon hit pro-life leader Dr. Johnny Hunter soon notified us that our prolife colleagues Dr. Haywood Robinson and wife Dr. Noreen Johnson were safe, even though Doc Robinson was approaching the finish line at the time of the explosion.

Grateful for the report, we continued to pray for the victims and their families. In the midst if it all, I remembered my previous warning about the futility of expecting gun control to cure the violence overtaking our nation.

People Wield Guns, Jesus Heals

By Alveda King
January 14, 2013

Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.) Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” – John 18:10-11

We live in a fallen world, a seemingly nonsensical world.

It’s a world where people hold inviolate a “constitutional right” that doesn’t appear in the Constitution in order to permit abortion violence, yet are ready to trample upon a right that explicitly appears in the Constitution in order to try to stop gun violence.

There is no conceivable gun control law that could have stopped the horror of Sandy Hook – at least nothing short of confiscation. And confiscation would involve the government entering people’s homes without permission – a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment’s bar against unreasonable searches and seizures, not to mention the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.

Still, people want to “do something.” I would suggest that we’re looking in the wrong place when we look at guns.

I know the horror of violence. Like many, I have lived through its trauma. I lost my uncle and grandmother to gun violence. But I also lost my father under suspicious circumstances that had nothing to do with guns. I lost childhood playmates not to guns, but to a bomb. My own house in Birmingham, in fact, was firebombed while I was in it . . .

Read the rest if this article HERE.

Years ago, a woman stabbed my Uncle ML in New York while he was there to preach with Dr. Billy Graham at Madison Square Garden. In her heart the woman disagreed with Rev. King’s message. Read John 8:37.

So now are we going to try to regulate bombs and/or materials that are used to make bombs?

I know that people become outrages when acts of violence mass killings are committed on our soil as do I. But my outrage is not restricted to those covered by the media. My outrage extends to the violent killing of each and every baby that is killed in an abortion mill in cities and towns all across America, all 4000 of them.

Here is the key – hearts must change if violence is to cease. Remember, Jesus didn’t take away Peter’s sword. Jesus spoke to Peter’s heart.
