Fr. Frank Pavone – North Carolina Legislature Overrides Governor, Saves Lives

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Date: July 29, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim

Staten Island, NY – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today said that the North Carolina legislature’s override of Governor Beverly Perdue’s veto of the Women’s Right to Know Act will save babies from being aborted.

“On the same day that the North Carolina Senate voted to provide women with valuable information about abortion before they undergo the procedure, the state of Minnesota released statistics showing that its own informed consent law has saved lives,” stated Fr. Pavone. “North Carolinians should rejoice that their legislators have voted to increase the chances that mothers will choose life for their babies.”

Father Frank Pavone kicks off Summer of Mercy 2.0 on Saturday

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Date: July 29, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim

GERMANTOWN, MD — “LeRoy Carhart has been in the business of murdering late-term babies for decades. States and cities have passed laws specifically to keep his particular brand of butchery outside their borders. When he slipped into Maryland, the state with the fewest restrictions on abortion, only pro-lifers noticed,” said Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life. “That will change this weekend.”

Father Pavone will deliver the keynote address Saturday at 7 p.m. as the Summer of Mercy 2.0 kicks off. Organized by Operation Rescue, the aim of the nine-day protest outside the abortion mill where Carhart performs late-term abortions, and in various locations nearby, is to make it impossible for his neighbors, and Maryland officials, to ignore what goes on behind those closed doors.

Father Pavone pointed out that Carhart conducts his risky late-term abortions in Maryland without having hospital privileges. “This means that if a patient needs emergency help due to a botched abortion, he has nowhere to take her,” he said. “This is a violation of medical ethics and safe practice procedures. That’s why he is under investigation by the Maryland Board of Physicians. And that’s why pro-lifers in Maryland and around the country are determined to shut him down.”

“Take part in the Summer of Mercy 2.0 and send an unequivocal message that murderers like Carhart will not be tolerated in our midst,” Father Pavone said.

The kickoff rally and keynote address will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Covenant Life Church, 7501 Muncaster Mill Road, Gaithersburg, Md.

During the course of the week, Father Pavone will make several important calls to action for the pro-life movement, in conjunction with this event. For the full Summer of Mercy 2.0 schedule, visit

Fr. Pavone Mourns Passing of Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Praising his Assistance to Priests for Life

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Date: July 28, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim

Staten Island, NY – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life/Gospel of Life Ministries, today paid tribute to Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, who passed away last night at the age of 73.

“On behalf of our entire Priests for Life team, I want to express gratitude for the work that the Archbishop did in being the Holy Father’s representative in the United States. In addition to his many responsibilities, which he carried out with great fidelity and joy, he also followed our work with great interest. In the conversations I had with him regularly at the U.S. bishops’ meetings, he was always a great encouragement. At certain critical moments of our growth, he provided direct assistance and guidance to protect and strengthen our ministry,” Fr. Pavone explained.

Archbishop Sambi was also responsible for the regional human rights organization for all of North and South America, the Organization of American States (OAS). He recognized the promotion of the culture of death by radical activists at the OAS and was assisted in his efforts to not only monitor but counter pro-abortion actions by Priests for Life/Gospel of Life Ministries.

A Voice for Life

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

I just heard the great testimony of Melissa Ohden, abortion attempt survivor, who came to the Priests for Life office in New York.

In 1977 her mother went to the hospital for a routine saline solution abortion which was a five day process. Five days later she returned to the hospital to deliver what was supposed to be a dead baby. As a nurse was tending to her mother she notices that Melissa was attempting to breath and was moving a little. That’s when the hospital staff started giving her medical attention. Her parents then decided to make an adoption plan for Melissa and she was adopted by a loving family.

In her testimony, Melissa talked about her struggle to meet her biological parents, grandparents, and siblings. What she found out is that her attempted abortion was something that was kept a secret and had a negative effect on their relationships.

To learn more about her amazing testimony visit A Voice for Life or Melissa Ohden’s personal website.

Priests for Life will soon have her testimony on DVD at our online store.

Fr. Pavone Calls for Aborted Baby Wake Services

Monday, July 25th, 2011

Date: July 25, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim

Orlando, FL – On this past Thursday, July 21, Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, preached at a memorial service for an aborted baby girl. The child was intact and her body was retrieved after a late-term abortion. The memorial service, organized by Operation Save America, was held outside of City Hall in Orlando.

“We are here because this baby was killed in the darkness, and we come to honor her in the bright light of day,” Fr. Pavone declared in his remarks. “The abortion industry wants to hide the violence done to these children, but we must be committed to expose it. Therefore we need to hold many more of these services, with tens of thousands of people looking at these children and recommitting themselves to end abortion.”

During the service, the name “Esther” was given to the child.

Fr. Frank invited any pro-life activists who obtain the remains of aborted children to be in contact with him to arrange for a proper wake service and burial.

Russia Moves Towards LIFE: Will America Rise to the Challenge?

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

With Russia having the highest abortion rates in the world, you would think that America would feel superior because our rates are lower than theirs. NOT SO! Rather than forging ahead to continue to turn the tide by lowering abortion rates, many of our elected officials are still fighting to keep America alive and well in the USA. Consider this contrast:

According to an article by Hilary White, Russian President Dimitry Medvedev “has signed a new law that requires abortion advertisements to include health warnings explaining the medical risks associated with the procedure. The law requires abortionists to devote 10 percent of all advertising to describing the dangers of abortion and makes it illegal to describe abortion as a “safe medical procedure.””

Meanwhile in America, the Department of Health and Human Services, charged with determining what will be included by a new health care law that requires insurers to cover preventative health care, enlisted the advice of the Institute of Medicine in determining if birth control should be covered. Recently the Institute of Medicine recommended “that health care insurers cover the cost of birth control under the new federal health care law [Obamacare].”

Wikipedia states, “Preventive medicine or preventive care refers to measures taken to prevent diseases, (or injuries) rather than curing them or treating their symptoms. Merriam-Webster defines ‘preventive’ as something that prevents; especially : something used to prevent disease. Since when did pregnancy become a disease?

According to an article by Kate Sheppard, “The other problem, says Monahan, is abortion. Specifically, abortion opponents argue that some emergency contraceptives — so called morning-after pills — can cause very early abortions by preventing the implantation of fertilized eggs into a woman’s uterus.

“So those 7 to 10 days before a baby can implant, Plan B can prevent implantation and thereby cause the demise of that baby. So we’d be opposed to those drugs being included because they act as abortifacients.”

Make no mistake about it. The next step our pro-choice or more aptly put, pro-abortion lawmakers will take is to pay for all abortions as they’re trying to do for the military. They’ll use the excuse that the pregnancy is causing undue stress and therefore causing mental health issues so the abortion is preventing further health problems.

The real issue is not the pregnancy but the promotion of sexual activity. Instead of everyone having sex as they wish, many as if they have no self-control, we need to start teaching responsibility. We are not animals without control over our bodies. That’s precisely what sets us apart from the animals, our ability to reason and make intelligent choices.

Having sex knowing that it could result in a pregnancy is not a very intelligent choice. And then, if pregnant, choosing to kill your baby is definitely NOT a good choice. You’ve just committed legalized murder, but murder just the same.

And you can’t say that just because you were using birth control when you got pregnant you should be able to abort your child because you and everyone else knows that birth control is not 100% effective. The only thing that is 100% successful in preventing pregnancy is abstinence.

God said “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28) but He also had a plan. Sex should only be practices in the context of marriage. Even in this context the married couple must be responsible in their planning of their family. Not by using contraception but rather by using natural family planning which helps to strengthen the marriage and not destroy it as artificial birth control does. This very important issue of conjugal love can be discussed in great depth and there has been much written about it but it’s too lengthy to go into it in this blog. (Perhaps another blog)

The culture of death that the pro-aborts are promoting will be the demise of our nation. We must stop it and start advancing a culture of life where all life is precious and to be valued, no matter how small or how old, all life is precious and valuable.

Pro-Life: From Conception to Natural Death

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

What does it mean to be Pro-Life?

To me, being pro-life is to be in support of life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death and everything in between.

This notion that pro-lifers only care about the unborn is ludicrous. The gamut of issues that make up the pro-life movement are so many and varied that no pro-lifer could possibly be active in all of them. Issues like abortion (legislatively, praying at abortion mills, marches for life, investigations, public awareness, and crisis pregnancy centers), life quality of the child (education, health care, nutrition, and family), adoption, stem cell research, cloning, birth control, abortifacients, RU486, death penalty, and euthanasia are all important and need to be addressed. However, no one pro-lifer can address all of these issues by themselves. So they pick a specific issue or two that they feel called to fight for and that is where their focus is directed. It’s silly to then say that they don’t care about any of the other issues.

In a recent debate on NPR’s radio show Tell Me More between Ryan Bomberger, co-founder of The Radiance Foundation, and Rev. Carlton Veazey, President and CEO of Religious Coalition of Reproductive Choice, Rev. Veazey made this very claim and without offering any proof whatsoever. I’m not sure if it was by design or by coincidence but just after the claim was made, the commentator brought the debate to an abrupt end without giving Mr. Bomberger a chance to refute the allegation. So I want to refute it now.

This really got me fired up because I am pro-life and I care about abortion as my main focus but I also care about all other life issues facing our children and even the adults. For example, an abortion not only kills the baby but it also hurts the mother and the father, if he’s in the picture. I’m concerned about the baby and the parents.

If they choose to abort their baby, I still care about the harm that comes to the mother and father. Their healing after the abortion, the increased risks of breast cancer associated with abortion, their increased risks of alcohol and drug abuse, their increased suicidal ideation and attempts.

If they choose keep the baby I care about the future of that baby, their access to a good primary and secondary education, their access to good affordable health care, their ability to have a nutritional diet, access to a good family life, preferably with both parents, etc.

I have been invited to speak out about many different issues like education, family, political issues, and others. I have turned most of them down because I don’t have time to address all of these issues. Does that mean that I don’t care about them? OF COURSE NOT. I do care and so I pray about these issues and for the many groups and organizations fighting for these issues. I’m just one person who feels that I have been called to stand and speak for the unborn and that is my focus.

Being pro-life is not just about abortion. It’s about a way of life, a mindset that God created life and we are created in God’s image. He, and He alone, decides when life will be created and when life will end.

Many in today’s society feel that they get to decide and so they murder or they assist in suicide. I pray for them too as they will have a heavy burden to live with and especially to die with. I pray for their souls that none of the children of His flock may be lost.

Everyone is created in His image and if you look hard enough, you can see the face of Jesus in everyone you meet. But to do this you must not only use your eyes but it requires the use of your heart as well. I see Jesus’ face in the unborn child, in the child with Down syndrome, in the child with a cleft lip, in the woman who just aborted her child, in the homeless man sleeping on the street, in the ones suffering with HIV and Aids, in the dying old woman suffering in great pain, in the prisoner waiting on death row, and in everyone who supports abortion who has been deceived by Satan, the father of lies.

I’m thankful for all the groups and organizations that fight for all these different life issues. God in his infinite wisdom and love has placed a calling in everyone’s heart for different life issues, usually through their life’s experiences. I had two abortions before God opened my eyes and heart to the truth and now I have a special desire to fight for the unborn.

Others fight against cancer because they either had cancer or know someone who does or did. That doesn’t mean that they don’t care about children with disabilities. Still others fight against the death penalty and others against euthanasia. Everyone has a calling if you just listen to your heart.

Being pro-Life is about caring for all life, not just the unborn. So, Rev. Carlton Veazey and all you who claim that we abandon the babies once their born, where is your proof? Don’t just make a blanket statement about pro-lifers. I want to see the proof. And don’t ask me how many babies I’ve adopted. That’s just as much of a cop-out. Nobody can adopt 4000 babies a day which is how many babies are being killed by abortions in America each day.

Rachel’s Vineyard Establishes Medical Board

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

Date: July 21, 2011

Contact: Andre Kim

MALVERN, PA – The biannual training conference for the world’s largest ministry of healing after abortion, Rachel’s Vineyard, continued in Malvern, Pa., Wednesday with the formal establishment of a Medical Advisory Board.

Rachel’s Vineyard utilizes the services of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and other professionals in the mental health field throughout the world. They assist both on the retreats and in the development and analysis of the effectiveness of this treatment model.

The establishment of a special advisory board now formalizes what has been happening all along, but brings the added advantage of being able to present to the medical and therapeutic community a more structured method of communicating about the issues of trauma and healing after abortion.

Some of the initial members of the Advisory Board are shown in the accompanying photo along with Pastoral Director, Father Frank Pavone. They are, left to right, Cynthia Dillard, Ph.D. (clinical psychologist), Martha Schuping, M.D. (psychiatrist), and Karen B. Stevensen, M.D. (psychiatrist).

“For Life, Liberty and Family”

To sign on to this letter, please visit where you can print a PDF of the letter and encourage your elected officials to sign the letter. Once you and/or your elected official have signed the letter, email to or mail to Priests for Life, c/o African American Outreach, PO Box 141172, Staten Island, NY 10314

Adapted from original letter posted January 7, 2009

Dear President Obama, Members of the U. S. Congress, Governors of State and Legislative Bodies, All Political Candidates and all elected and appointed leaders of the people of the United States of America:

Objective: To restore respect for human life, liberty and family, as a means of reducing crime; America’s grossly disproportionate prison inmate population; and the number of pregnancies ending in abortion.

Violent crime reflects a basic disrespect for the lives and liberty of other individuals. Crime often destroys human life or the liberty to enjoy freedom or pursue happiness. As crime has skyrocketed in the United States, so has the cost of defending one’s freedom be it as a criminal defendant or as a community burdened by the cost of law enforcement and imprisonment of those convicted of crimes so that others may enjoy the freedoms promised by the Constitution. Abortion is an act of violence against God and humanity. Life and Liberty are joint partners, anchored by the family. The challenge of this country has been to balance the freedom of one individual against the freedom of others. The essential duty of protecting the lives of its citizens must not be subjugated to the protection of the liberties of a few.

We the undersigned respectfully submit for your consideration the following strategic plan with the desire to accomplish the betterment of all Americans. We would appreciate the opportunity for open dialogue at town hall meetings, or at any venue you so choose.

1) Remove all federal and state funding including Title 10 funding that is used to promote or commit acts against the family.

2)  Remove all federal and state funding that is used to support, promote or commit acts of genocide, abortion and prenatal murder, including Title 10 funding.

3)  Support legislation and allow funding for development of a Human Life Curriculum for schools; youth detention; centers and prisons. Said curriculum would include pertinent information regarding nutrition; natural family planning; the link between fertility, breast feeding and continuation of the species and other non-invasive prevention strategies. The race issue would be addressed with information regarding the knowledge that all human beings are one race rather than the currently accepted concept that there are separate races of human beings on the earth. Essential parenting concepts, fatherhood and motherhood principles and other information regarding human life and development would be included.

4)  Support legislation and provide funding for enabling mothers and fathers to be actively involved in the educational choices of their children.

5)  Provide legislation, funding for and support of Public Service Announcements heralding the benefits of embracing family life as opposed to practicing the use of harmful chemical and surgical procedures such as artificial birth control and abortion. Such announcements would be similar to those of those Surgeon General’s warning that smoking is hazardous to your health.

6)  Support legislation and provide funding that enables provision of Birthing and Crisis Pregnancy Centers throughout America.

7) Support legislation and provide funding for Re-establishment of the Federal Parole System:

8)  Support legislation and provide funding for Municipal Transition Centers: (The Clinton Administration directed funding to local government for the funding of new prisons and jails. Similar funding should be directed to local governments for the funding of locally operated transition centers for newly released prisoners)

9)  Provide funding for and support the development of Local Parole Advisory Boards: made up of local citizens who assist state parole boards in making parole decisions.

10) Support legislation and provide funding for Re-established Prisoner/ Parolee Exchange Programs to maintain balance in state and federal prison population with parole population and to limit the growth in prison population.

11) Provide funding, legislation and plan for utilizing Parolee Labor to rebuild America’s infrastructure as opposed to privatizing prisons.

12) Provide legislation and funding for federal and state establishment of a commission made up of civil rights advocates, spiritual and community leaders, lawyers, law enforcement etc. for a “jubilee release project” to review individuals for release first considering those who may have been wrongly convicted, unjustly sentenced and then those who have demonstrated rehabilitation, targeting a reduction in federal and state prison populations.

As leaders and lay members of the populations you serve, we welcome the opportunity to assist and support efforts such as those outlined above in this letter. We commit ourselves to communicating this information to you through the channels you provide, and expect to find other creative, loving and non-violent ways of communicating with you, respectfully acknowledging your authority to govern, with the expectation of fostering a better life for all human beings.

Your signature here represents your commitment to this pledge and to a better America.

Signed: _____________________________________ (Political Leader)

We are looking forward to your response.

Prayerfully and sincerely,

Americans for Advancing the Culture of Life, Liberty, Justice and Family in America
