Any study that pretends that to destroy ones baby is normal and psychologically, emotionally and spiritually free of any negative consequences is rubbish.

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Dr. Theresa Burke, Founder and Executive Director of Rachel’s Vineyard and Pastoral Associate for Priests for Life. Below are comments made by her regarding the Danish study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

A person’s immediate emotional response to a traumatic event does not solely determine whether or not that person will suffer the symptoms of trauma. A considerable period of time may intervene between the trauma-causing event and the traumatic reaction. For example, imagine a new terrorist recruit who is instructed to throw a bomb over a wall. At the sound of the explosion, the young terrorist may actually feel powerful rather than helpless, courageous rather than fearful, jubilant rather than horrified. But if the young bomb thrower later walks around the wall and sees the bodies of his victims, his emotional response might be instantly changed. Though in his mind he knew what to expect, the horror of actually seeing the results of his act may overwhelm his intellectual justifications for doing what “had to be done.” If he subsequently develops symptoms of hyper-arousal, intrusion and constriction, he has developed PTSD.

Similarly, for many women, the traumatic nature of their abortion is not fully released until some subsequent event triggers a fuller understanding of everything that has happened. In the case of abortion, PTSD symptoms can obviously be triggered by exposure to the ghastly image of a dismembered fetus. But a similar sense of horror can also be triggered by what are normally wonderful experiences. Any experience that arouses a sense of awe about the value of life can trigger the release of a traumatic reaction to a past abortion. From such a summit of awe, the memory of having been involved in an abortion may suddenly appear to be a terrible horror.

We can see the nation’s traumatic reaction to the “house of horrors” in Philadelphia, where abortionist Dr. Gosnell was recently charged with murder. The Doctor had his own trauma inspired collection of baby body parts, with a particular fetish for fetus feet, openly displayed in every crevice of the clinic, including the refrigerator where employees kept their lunches! When we actually imagine the result of abortion violence stuffed in jars, and we hear about the blood splattered walls of the poor women who died during abortion — we can recognize the disgusting horror that abortion is. And in case you agree with Philadelphia’s Mayor Ed Rendell who thinks we need to make abortion “safe for the fetus!” you’re in a serious pathological state of denial. Philadelphia’s nightmare clinic differs little from abortion clinics across the country, or from inside the minds of moms and dads who regret their choice and suffer nightmares, intrusive imagery, depression anxiety and addictions. They end up with the same violently dismembered dead babies – but most clinics at least try to dispose of the evidence. And the hundreds of women who have died by legal abortion, or commit suicide because of abortion, or go on to have multiple abortions as a symptom of trauma – well, this is outside the realm of confounding variables that activist researchers want to highlight. Please spare us the lies and “scientific” cover-up.

Mothers know the sad truth — those who have suffered the loss of a child through abortion have endured an unspeakable trauma – a hideous unspoken violence.

I’ve spent the last 25 years counseling women whose hearts and minds have been fractured by abortion in Rachel’s Vineyard weekends for healing after abortion. Our program has spread to 30 countries and is conducted in 10 languages. That’s because women and men are hurting and haunted by the memory and reality of abortion. My book Forbidden Grief – The Unspoken Pain of Abortion provides information and research about abortion trauma and over 300 pages of compelling evidence.

The testimonies of hundreds of women and men in the Silent No More Awareness Campaign share the voice of experience that won’t be translated any time soon into studies funded by Planned Parenthood, Marie Stopes and advocates of abortion. That would not be good for business. That’s why most people promoting abortion suffer from hyper-arousal and a need to blatantly deny the pain, the mental illness, the horror. They want us all to pretend that to destroy one’s baby is normal and psychologically, emotionally and spiritually free of any negative consequences. That’s rubbish – not reality. There appears to be a disturbing collusion by agenda driven researchers who masquerade activism as science, and as long as abortion is debated, these misguided representations of science actually shape public policy, legislation, and individual choices, to insure that the money and lies keep flowing along with the blood of babies and the tears of broken hearted mothers.

Latest Study on Abortion and Mental Health Minimizes Womens Trauma Say Silent No More Leaders

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Staten Island, NY – Leaders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, the world’s largest network of individuals harmed by abortion, today slammed a new Danish study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that purports to show that abortion does not increase the risk of subsequent mental health problems.

“This so-called study doesn’t consider women who have emotional or mental health problems after an abortion, but who don’t check themselves into psychiatric hospitals or clinics,” said Janet Morana, co-founder of the SNMAC. “If you suffer depression because of your abortion, turn to drugs or alcohol, or have suicidal thoughts and don’t seek professional help, this study counts you as being just fine.”

The study examined the health records of Danish women who had first trimester abortions and who had not had prior abortions. It measured how many of these women went to psychiatric hospitals or outpatient clinics within one year of their abortions.

“It’s as if the people who designed this report set it up to exclude women at the greatest risk to suffer post-abortion problems – those having repeat abortions or having abortions after thirteen weeks of pregnancy,” added Georgette Forney, another SNMAC co-founder. “Frankly, for the thousands of us who have stepped forward publicly and the many more who endure the pain of abortion privately, it’s outrageous to hear abortion apologists say that we don’t exist.”

Dr. Alveda King, a SNMAC spokeswoman, also commented on the structure of the study. “I know from my own experience that the weight and trauma of your abortion may not hit you until long after it’s over. For this study to exclude the many women like me only tells me that it was not looking for the truth.”

Theresa Burke, psychologist, author, and founder of the Rachel’s Vineyard Ministries for post-abortive women and men, adds to Dr. King’s comments. “I’ve spent the last 25 years counseling women whose hearts and minds have been fractured by abortion. For many women, the traumatic nature of their abortion is not fully released until some subsequent event triggers a fuller understanding of everything that has happened. Any study that pretends that to destroy one’s baby is normal and psychologically, emotionally and spiritually free of any negative consequences is rubbish.”

Since the launching of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 3,877 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 572 gatherings in 48 states and ten countries where more than 110,830 attendees have heard the truth about abortion’s negative aftereffects. More than 9,027 people are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign’s goals.

Philadelphia Abortion Story and New York Abortion Statistics Are Not An Anomaly.

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s Philadelphia abortion arrest story is shocking. The New York abortion statistics that 39%-41% of all pregnancies in New York end in abortion are horrendous. The onslaught to close life nurturing pregnancy care center in New York, Washington State and across the nation is scandalous. Friends, these abortion nightmares are not exceptions to the gruesome abortion saga in America. They are part of the norm.

For years we in the Pro-Life Movement have been sounding the alarm, but the main stream media doesn’t want to hear it. It took something as horrific as what Dr. Gosnell (Grand Jury ReportPresentation Report) did to make them take notice if only for a brief moment. I guess if one of those babies had been from a prominent family of a congressperson, the coverage would have been more extensive. Maybe it would have gotten a lot more coverage. But these were victims from poor families, not really all that important I guess. And although Dr. Gosnell murdered eight people that can be proven and probably hundreds that can’t be proven and in a more disturbing fashion with other people having knowledge and even participating in their murders, the story received little coverage from the mainstream media and then only briefly as I stated earlier. I’m not criticizing the coverage of the Tucson murders as it should have been covered extensively; I just feel that this story should have been covered extensively as well.

One can’t even argue that these were fetuses either as is often the argument when it comes to abortion related issues. These were viable babies, already delivered, sometimes by C-Section, that were alive and breathing, one for about 20 minutes. Where is the outrage from others outside the Pro-Life Movement? Where is the news coverage? Where is the profiling of this doctor? Of the others involved? Of the authorities that let this occur, some having knowledge of what was going on?

Another story that received minimal coverage by the mainstream media is the abortion statistics in New York. These statistics, although higher than the national average, are not rare. Abortion is in the rise according to a recent Guttmacher Institute survey. With approximately 3,500 abortions being performed daily in the United States, approximately 120,000 daily worldwide. These numbers are astounding and yet there is no outrage by the general public or the mainstream media.

The subject of abortion seems to be taboo. Just the mere utterance of the word and criticism of it is enough to bring an onslaught of criticism. Take Senator Rick Santorum as an example. He is trying to bring awareness that the Black Community is being targeted by the abortion industry and he gets criticism from Al Sharpton, a member of that community. Instead of being outraged that his own people are being targeted for murder and locking arms with Senator Santorum against the forces of evil, he opposed him and ignores the proof right under his nose.

Pro-Lifers Are Taking Back The Airwaves From The Prince Of The Power Of The Air

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

At the Walk for Life West Coast, there were so many walkers that the opposition to the Pro-Life Walk said, “They’re so strong that there’s no airspace.” The number of attendees even surpassed the expectation of the organizer and the San Francisco Police said, “the 2001 Walk was the largest ever.”

The March for Life in Washington, DC is estimated to having nearly 300,000 attendees, many of them youth and young adults. The streets of DC were closed for hours for the march, overwhelming the opposition whose numbers were so small, they are ashamed to release them. Why the difference in numbers? As the truth about abortion becomes known, more and more people are fighting to bring an end to it. And just as in California, and DC, the numbers were also staggering across the nation. Even the cold weather didn’t keep hundreds of thousands of marchers around the country away.

The Pro-Life Movement is making a lot of ground in the fight to bring an end to abortion in America. With the recent arrest of Dr. Kermit Gosnell in Philadelphia, PA for the murder of at least seven babies and one mother and the atrocities he committed to hundreds of others that cannot be proven because he destroyed files; and the attention that Rick Santorum’s comment regarding President Obama’s support of abortion, the media is being left no other option but to cover the stories and shine a light on the abortion issue.

Not only are we taking back the ground but we are taking back the power of the air. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will no longer be able to prostitute and sell the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for their own agendas. Dr. King’s dream is not for sale, people! Read Dr. Martin Luther King’s advice column and notes about the Planned Parenthood manipulation tactics (Part 1 and Part 2) to attempt to link Dr. King to their agenda of death.

Mr. Santorum: Leaders of the Black Prolife Movement Agree that too Many Black Babies are Aborted

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

On the morning after the Rick Santorum, Al Sharpton abortion debate, many in the prolife community are stunned that a leading figure in the black community so cavalierly dismissed the charges Santorum brought against the abortion industry.

“It was inconceivable for blacks in America to believe that slaves were not stolen from Africa but were sold and freely delivered to the slave traders by other Africans. It is just as inconceivable that blacks today continue in that same spirit of division as we saw on the Hannity Show last night, opined Johnny Hunter of Life Education and Resource Network. Al Sharpton, for the sake of Al Sharpton, railed against Rick Santorum for calling attention to the horrific impact abortion is having on the black community. Shame on him said Dr. Hunter.

Obscuring the heart of the issue that Santorum brought to the forefront, Al Sharpton deliberately redirected the conversation towards a civil rights argument. “I cannot believe that Sharpton called the taking of innocent life in the womb a civil right”, said Alveda King. “This is not the right my father and my uncle gave their lives for. Civil rights protect individual freedoms, not deny them. The right to life is the 21st century civil right that will protect all human beings from conception to natural death and we must all fight for it.

Just as they did in the Plessy vs. Ferguson and Dred Scott cases, the Supreme Court, in 1973, again denied protection to a class of citizens, said Walter Hoye of Personhood USA. Justice Blackmun and the core of eugenicists he collaborated with cloaked their racial intent in the garment of abortion and Al Sharpton has happily agreed to be one of the faces of the Negro Project authored by Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger” he said.

“For more than thirty eight years, abortion has cut into the birthrate of the black community” said Dean Nelson, Vice President of Urban Outreach with Carenet. “The black community must recognize that Roe v. Wade is the modern answer to the lynching and killing fields of the south. It must be stopped”, he said.

“More black children have died by abortion that the seven leading causes of death in the African American community combined, said Catherine Davis of the Network of Politically Active Christians. Since the days of Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers have targeted the black community in order to control the “… growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of” as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg acknowledged in her New York Times Magazine interview in July 2009. We must stop this deliberate decimation of the black community now”.

In America, we subconsciously devalue black babies. We are tricked into thinking a black child has less value than a child of another race. Though U.S. law prohibits discrimination on the basis of race in various contexts, including employment, education and housing, black babies are still openly targeted and discriminated against. This is our battle and we are uniting together to end this last bastion of discrimination in America, said Day Gardner of the National Black Prolife Union.

Celebration Banquet Fundraiser 2011

Monday, January 24th, 2011

The Gainesville Care Center in Gainesville, GA is holding a fundraiser dinner on March 17, 2011 at 6:45 PM at the First Baptist Church Banquet Hall. So why am I bringing this up? Well, it’s because of the Keynote speaker, Kelly Wright.

Kelly Wright is the co-anchor of Fox News Channel’s “FOX and Friends Weekend.” And why is this such exciting news that I should be blogging about it? It’s important because of his testimony, his pro-life testimony, his testimony of his mother’s choice to choose life over abortion, even though he was conceived through rape.

Just the other night on Defending Life, a young woman gave her testimony of her struggle to find her natural mother after having been put up for adoption. When she found her biological mother, she found out that she was the product of a rape and that her mother did want to abort her but abortion was illegal at the time in her state. Now that their relationship has grown, the mother is now pro-life and is glad she did not have an abortion.

Both Kelly and the woman from the show now share their testimonies to tell the world that even though they were conceived in rape, their lives do matter.

Both of these cases illustrate that every human life, no matter how they were conceived, is precious and a gift from God.

There are many who feel that abortion is wrong but should be allowed in certain cases, incest and rape being two of them. But I say to you that the women have already been victims of one crime (incest or rape) that to further make them victims of another crime (although maybe not legally, certainly morally) would subject them to further pain and complications, as abortion is linked to many different complications.

Fr. Pavone Announces Healing Effort for Former Abortion Providers

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued today a new invitation to former abortionists and a new action item for pro-life activists.

“With attention during these days on the gruesome activities of practicing abortionists and the conversion of former abortionists, it is important to renew the urgent invitation to reconciliation and healing that mark the ministry of the Church and the pro-life movement,” Fr. Pavone said.

“For the last two decades, Priests for Life has reached out to those who work in the abortion industry, and assisted them to come out and readjust to a normal lifestyle. Working with those who have found healing, and with professionals like Dr. Philip Ney, who has developed a treatment program for ex-abortionists, we have seen the urgency of helping these individuals attend first and foremost to their own needs. Those who have left the killing industry can, with the help of the Lord and His people, face the reality of what they have done, and undertake the arduous journey toward re-humanizing themselves and the children they killed. This is long, hard work. When the Lord comes to us, he forgives us in a moment, but healing takes years,” Fr. Pavone explained.

Priests for Life therefore invites all those who have left the abortion industry to come to the Society of Centurions and explore the options they have for healing. Specific gatherings of Centurions will be announced during the course of this year, and spiritual and psychological guidance are available to those who come forward.

Fr. Pavone urged pro-life activists to repeat this invitation to healing, and to contact Priests for Life if they know of those who need this assistance.

The Beloved Community and the Unborn

Friday, January 21st, 2011

As our nation pauses to recommit itself to fulfilling the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we invite our fellow citizens to reflect on how that dream touches every human life. Dr. King taught that justice and equality need to be as wide-reaching as humanity itself. Nobody can be excluded from the Beloved Community. He taught that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

In his 1967 Christmas sermon, he pointed out the foundation of this vision:
“The next thing we must be concerned about if we are to have peace on earth and good will toward men is the nonviolent affirmation of the sacredness of all human life. …Man is a child of God, made in His image, and therefore must be respected as such….And when we truly believe in the sacredness of human personality, we won’t exploit people, we won’t trample over people with the iron feet of oppression, we won’t kill anybody.”

The work of building the Beloved Community is far from finished. In each age, it calls us to fight against poverty, discrimination, and violence in every form. And as human history unfolds, the forms that discrimination and violence take will evolve and change. Yet our commitment to overcome them must not change, and we must not shrink from the work of justice, no matter how unpopular it may become.

In our day, therefore, we cannot ignore the discrimination, injustice, and violence that are being inflicted on the youngest and smallest members of the human family, the children in the womb. Thousands of these children are killed every day in America by abortion, throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

We declare today that these children too are members of the Beloved Community, that our destiny is linked with theirs, and that therefore they deserve justice, equality, and protection.

And we can pursue that goal, no matter what ethnic, religious, or political affiliation we have. None of that has to change in order for us to embrace Dr. King’s affirmation of the sacredness of all human life. It simply means that in our efforts to set free the oppressed, we include the children in the womb.

We invite all people of good will to join us in the affirmation that children in the womb have equal rights and human dignity.
