Baltimore City Council gives unfair ruling

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

rawlings-blake_lUnder a policy passed last night by the Baltimore City Council, the area’s pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) will be forced to post signs on their clinic doors saying they don’t provide abortions or birth control referrals. The measure, which is the first–and hopefully last–of its kind passed the City Council by a 12-3 vote. President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the liberal pro-abortionist behind the idea, called it “a step toward making sure that women have the information they need to make the right decision for their health and their future.”

Interestingly enough, the city refuses to apply these same rules to abortion clinics, which pride themselves on hiding the truth about unborn children, abortion, and its lifelong effects. Where is the same treatment for Planned Parenthood? Why aren’t its clinics required to post signs saying, “We’ll encourage your underage daughters to have an abortion without your knowledge or consent”? Or, “Our employees willingly cover-up sexual abuse and statutory rape of girls as young as 12.”

Meanwhile, this same rabid, pro-abortion crowd is planning to lobby the federal government for a raise from the over $330 million it rakes in from taxpayers each year. In the health care debate, groups like Planned Parenthood are using imagery of coat hangers and “back alley abortions” to extort more money from Americans. PRCs, on the other hand, exist with one goal: to help the most vulnerable in society–mothers-to-be and their babies. And they do it with a fraction of the government aid that Planned Parenthood enjoys. The PRCs’ success, which we document in A Passion to Serve, A Vision for Life, is obviously threatening to their anti-life foes.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Definition: the act of giving thanks; grateful acknowledgement of benefits of favors, especially to God; out of which came a special day to do this, thus Thanksgiving Day.
When was the first Thanksgiving Prayer in the Bible Thanksgiving Feast of Tabernacle; Succoth Leviticus 23
When was the first Thanksgiving Celebration in America? Early Thanksgiving custom in America observed by Pilgrims and Continental Congress. Thanksgiving Day is still observed in America today.
STATE OF NEW-HAMPSHIRE. IN COMMITTEE of SAFETY, EXETER, November 1, 1782. ORDERED, THAT the following Proclamation for a general THANKSGIVING on the twenty-eighth day of November instant, received from the honorable Continental Congress, be forthwith printed, and sent to the several worshipping Assemblies in this State, to whom it is recommended religiously to observe said day, and to abstain from all servile labour thereon. M. WEARE, President. By the United States in Congress assembled. PROCLAMATION. IT being the indispensable duty of all Nations, not only to offer up their supplications to ALMIGHTY GOD, the giver of all good, for his gracious assistance in a time of distress, but also in a solemn and public manner to give him praise for his goodness in general, and especially for great and signal interpositions of his providence in their behalf: Therefore the United States in Congress assembled, taking into their consideration the many instances of divine goodness to these States, in the course of the important conflict in which they have been so long engaged; the present happy and promising state of public affairs; and the events of the war, in the course of the year now drawing to a close; particularly the harmony of the public Councils, which is so necessary to the success of the public cause; the perfect union and good understanding which has hitherto subsisted between them and their Allies, notwithstanding the artful and unwearied attempts of the common enemy to divide them; the success of the arms of the United States, and those of their Allies, and the acknowledgment of their independence by another European power, whose friendship and commerce must be of great and lasting advantage to these States:—– Do hereby recommend to the inhabitants of these States in general, to observe, and request the several States to interpose their authority in appointing and commanding the observation of THURSDAY the twenty-eight day of NOVEMBER next, as a day of solemn THANKSGIVING to GOD for all his mercies: and they do further recommend to all ranks, to testify to their gratitude to GOD for his goodness, by a cheerful obedience of his laws, and by promoting, each in his station, and by his influence, the practice of true and undefiled religion, which is the great foundation of public prosperity and national happiness. Done in Congress, at Philadelphia, the eleventh day of October, in the year of our LORD one thousand seven hundred and eighty-two, and of our Sovereignty and Independence, the seventh. JOHN HANSON, President.
Charles Thomson, Secretary.
Origins of Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving didn’t start with the pilgrims. In ancient Bible days, there were feasts of Thanksgiving. The word thank appears 26 times; the word thanks appears 71 times, and the word thanksgiving appears 27 times (KJV). All of this tells us that thanksgiving is something good, and that we should do it often, not just on turkey day! And we don’t want to be like the Pharisees of old, with selfish thanksgiving prayers: Luke 18:11 KJV The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Friends, it’s Thanksgiving. At least tomorrow is. This morning, I sat reading a page of Frank Pavone’s “Pro-life Reflections for Every Day” and thanking God for each of you. I also read from a daily meditations book a young friend gave me for Christmas last year. These readings are great for introspection while we are also reflecting on God’s goodness in our lives. For instance, one writer says” My thankful list includes the joy, the pain and the suffering.” She is thanking God in all things!

Another reflection speaks of sharing in others’ successes without letting the worm of envy creep in. You know, that little vine spoiling fox that whispers in our ears: “Why can’t I be the one celebrated rather than my friend?” The writer suggests that as God’s perfect love guides our relationships, we can appreciate what He does for us as well as others, without envy. Wow!

Yet another writer speaks about the danger of “putting ME first”, even in thanksgiving to God! So, could that mean we that God first for just being God, before we even get to thanking God for our personal blessings? Like thanking God for the sun, the moon, for Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit for all God’s blessings to everyone, before we turn our thoughts to ourselves, to our needs and even our victories?

She writes: “There is never profit in serving ME, only grievous loss… You set your heart on getting something for ME, only to discover that once you get it, ME is not satisfied with it… Sooner or later, serving ME is proven to be nothing but vanity and vexation of spirit. (Ecclesiastes 1:16)

So, this Thanksgiving, enjoy the pleasure of serving others, expecting God to bless you, basking in the glow of family and friends. Also, please remember those who may not have family or turkey, and pray that God will bless them too. Donate to a food bank or give gift to your local merchant, as they share with those in need. It’s even the “little” things like these that please God, in our love and ministry to the “least of these.”
One final note: A scripture meditation for the prolife movement…
In these passages in Ezekiel, the water is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We are the fishermen. The sanctuary can be our local places of worship, where we go for Bible lessons, fellowship, corporate prayer, etc., and then come out on the battlefield, fighting for life, in whatever way God uses us. He gives us unique gifts that we share with each other and the dying world.
The message in 1 Peter 2:12-17 may help us to remember to be gracious, even to those who do not share our views regarding life… People can be won to Jesus, and yes the Prolife Movement, by our humble expressions of truth and love… Note that Peter even says to honor the emperor, this could be even if the emperor is not of the same persuasion as the writer… Let’s pray that our good deeds, our love for God and all humanity, will draw people, and win them to the sanctity of life message… Happy Thanksgiving!

Ezekiel 47: 1-12
Water Flowing from the Temple
1 Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar. 2 Then he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate that faces toward the east; and behold, the water was trickling out on the south side. 3 Going on eastward with a measuring line in his hand, the man measured a thousand cubits, and then led me through the water, and it was ankle-deep. 4 Again he measured a thousand, and led me through the water, and it was knee-deep. Again he measured a thousand, and led me through the water, and it was waist-deep. 5 Again he measured a thousand, and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the water had risen. It was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be passed through. 6 And he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?”Then he led me back to the bank of the river. 7 As I went back, I saw on the bank of the river very many trees on the one side and on the other. 8 And he said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, and enters the sea; when the water flows into the sea, the water will become fresh. 9 And wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes. 10 Fishermen will stand beside the sea. From Engedi to Eneglaim it will be a place for the spreading of nets. Its fish will be of very many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea. 11 But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they are to be left for salt. 12 And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”

1 Peter 2: 12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
Submission to Authority
13 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. 15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

Baltimore City Council votes to harass Pregnancy Care Centers… This is an OUTRAGE!

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Baltimore, MD City Council has voted to force Pregnancy Care Centers to post signs saying that they do not perform abortions. The City Council did not vote to require abortion clinics to post signs saying that they abort babies which results in the death of the babies and possible harm to the mothers. The report below is from a fellow warrior on the ground.

This legislation was proposed by Planned Parenthood and the City Council has pretty much done its bidding. The television coverage has been more evenhanded than one might expect. Last night’s WBAL-TV report twice displayed the signs already posted (voluntarily) by the city PRCs that they do not make referrals for abortion or abortifacients. They also included a citizen’s statement that Planned Parenthood does not tell women the truth about what abortion is and how it impacts women. Clearly, however, the Council had the votes to do what it did. Mayor Dixon here is on trial for accepting and diverting to her own use gift cards intended for the city’s poor. A news show commentator yesterday afternoon said that the Mayor would likely survive if she is able to duplicate the feat of other big-city mayors in finding city jobs and contracts for supporters. There was no pretense that the process in Baltimore is about good government rather than effectively rewarding friends. That in essence is what happened here.

Montgomery County is considering similar legislation. The reportage here is self-conscious about the fact that this is a “first in the nation” measure – they even called it “landmark,” a strong term for a bill designed only to harass people doing good for mothers and babies. Undoubtedly, PP will spread the word instantly about their success here as their own “urban initiative.” A proper response might be for language along the lines to demonstrate that this is a two-way street, at least in some locales.

Coerced abortion… The ugly truth. This is an OUTRAGE!

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Please read the story below. This young teenager was coerced into having an abortion. As a fellow victim of coerced abortion, I truly sympathize with her. Nick Cannon’s mother ran away from an abortion clinic to keep her baby. If that clinic and doctor had had their way, Nick would be dead today! Women are being coerced into having abortions every day. African American women are the most targeted group in America for coerced abortions. Women are told to shut up and it will be over soon. Women have been sterilized, forced into abortion. There are so many stories. Please visit for testimonies. See! Feminine Care? What a joke! The girl probably expressed doubts from the moment she stepped in their door. The coaxed her into it for the money. To say that this doctor is a prudent practitioner is an OUTRAGE!

Teen files lawsuit against Flint doctor for alleged forced abortion; doctor claims she changed her mind too late
By Laura Angus | Flint Journal
November 20, 2009, 9:46PM
FLINT, Michigan — A teenager is accusing a Flint abortion doctor and his assistant of holding her down and covering her mouth as the doctor forced her to have an abortion after she screamed for them to stop.

In a lawsuit filed in June, the teen said she came to WomanCare of Flint, also known as Feminine Care Center, for an abortion on April 9, 2008, but alleges that she changed her mind before the doctor started the procedure.

WomanCare of Flint
Local and national anti-abortion activists are rallying behind the lawsuit, claiming this is one of many wrongdoings by the doctor.

The doctor’s lawyer, Steve Weiss out of Bloomfield Hills, said the doctor was well into the procedure when the teen expressed misgivings, and he had to complete it “for her safety and well being.”

“He’s a prudent practitioner who follows all the right guidelines,” said Weiss. “I think it’s just a matter of people that are anti-abortion trying to create something where it isn’t there.”

In a court filing, the doctor said the surgical instrument was already in her uterus, her water was ruptured and she was bleeding when she changed her mind. Weiss said this claim is corroborated by witnesses.

The doctor, who owns several abortion clinics in Michigan, is a frequent target of criticism in pro-life circles, including Web sites dedicated to tracking accusations made against the doctor.

President of Operation Rescue Troy Newman said nationally, pro-life activists have been following this particular doctor for a number of years because he is “one of the most despicable abortionists in the country.”

“Unfortunately, abortion doctors, and this one in particular, have been notorious for being nothing more than a butcher,” he said.

In the lawsuit, the teen claims that she screamed, “Stop, stop, I don’t want this,” before the procedure, but he had his assistant hold her down and cover her mouth as he went through with the abortion, according to court documents.

She was six weeks into her pregnancy and has since been admitted to Hurley Medical Center because she was suicidal after the abortion, according to court documents.

Judy Climer, president of Flint Right to Life, has already contacted the teen’s lawyer and said her organization hopes more women who have been forced into abortions will come forward because “it happens a lot.” She plans to attend court hearings and write the judge to support the case.

“I want to support the attorney and this mother in every way that I can because it’s not an easy thing to step forward and expose this,” she said. “She’s obviously very scarred from this.”

The teen is seeking damages “far exceeding” $25,000 because of severe emotional stress, mental anguish and additional medical treatment because of the abortion. The lawsuit was filed June 12, 2009 in Genesee Circuit Court.

The lawsuit also alleges the doctor mistreated the teen because she is a young black woman, claims the defense calls “ridiculous, salacious and wrongfully defamatory,” according to court documents.

Pro-Choice is Pro-Death and Anti-Life; Let’s call it what it is…

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Abortion is fetal murder. Pro-choice means acceptance of abortion which is pro-murder and anti-life. Prolife is pro-justice and pro-dignity so Let’s stop using the enemy’s euphemisms!

Pro-abortion Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) told MSNBC that there are not 50 pro-life votes in the Senate to pass an anti-abortion funding amendment. He said, “There aren’t more than four or five Democratic senators that I would say are anti-choice. There are at least, I think, two Republican senators who are pro-choice.”

Threats or encouragement?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

While pro-abortion strategy will include threats, we as affirmers of the sanctity and quality of life must contact our members of Congress with encouragement for those who are already strong for life to remain steady, and invite their reluctant colleges to join them. We must assure all members of Congress that we are looking for leaders who support life, and will do everything we can to support them. We must encourage prolife candidates to run for office as well.
Kate Michelman and Frances Kissling have written a NY Times op-ed today threatening Democrat Congressmen with electoral challenges from the left if they don’t commit themselves to defeating the Stupak/Pitts amendment.

Fearless stances, nervous vollies…Senator Nelson gets it. NARAL doesn’t!

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Senator Nelson gets it. NARAL doesn’t!

Pro-life Democrat Senator Ben Nelson (NE) said Monday of the health care bill, “If there’s public money going to fund abortions, I can’t support it, period, no matter what else is in it.” Nelson is said to be pressing for Stupak amendment language in the Senate bill.

There were more than 40 prolife votes for the Stupak-Pitts Amendment! Would you call the votes mixed-choice folks?

The President of NARAL, Nancy Keenan, says that there are 41 pro-abortion Senators, 40 pro-life, and 19 “mixed-choice folks.” With the possibility of needing 60 votes to pass an amendment in the Senate, the abortion language that Majority Leader Harry Reid includes in his health care bill will difficult to change.

Voting Records to Go To All Churches, Leading Priest States

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Rev. Frank Pavone is right on it. He gets it! People should know the impact of their members of Congress on the sanctity and quality of life. To read more, visit
Voting Records to Go To All Churches, Leading Priest States
Washington, DC – Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, stated this morning that the voting records of members of Congress on the Stupak-Pitts amendment to HR 3962 (and other abortion-related votes) will be distributed to every Catholic parish in America, with instructions to each pastor on how to make clear to his congregation the implications of how that congregation’s representative voted. “Whatever one’s position on abortion itself,” Fr. Pavone commented, “the vast majority of Americans have always opposed the idea that taxpayers should fund it. Our plan to inform pastors of these voting records is phase one of a year-long effort to activate Churches as never before regarding what they can legally do in preparation for next year’s midterm elections. Publishing voting records in a non-partisan fashion is certainly one of those activities.”

Fr. Pavone also said that in his role as President of the National Pro-life Religious Council, he would also involve Churches of other denominations in this project to educate voters on the outcome of the Stupak-Pitts amendment.

Law and Order should meet Abby Johnson

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

abby-johnson-and-law-and-orderCheck out the similarities between the decision of Abby Johnson and a recent Law and Order episode. Ms. Johnson, a former director of a Planned Parenthood facility quit and became pro-life after actually viewing an ultrasound of an abortion as it was taking place. The Law and Order episode explores contemporary abortion issues.
Ms. Johnson’s real life prick of conscience lines up with the abortion issues in the recent Law and Order episode. They should meet. Ms. Johnson’s change of heart and the show’s headline inspired account of the murder of a fictitious abortion doctor which occurs in a church, similar to the real life murder of abortion doctor George Tiller, brings the abortion controversy to the forefront again.
The decision that Abby Johnson made and the issues raised on Law and Order are lessons of great hope. No one can escape the power of the truth. They can try to deny it, ignore it, or hide it, but they can’t escape it. As a post-abortive mother, I had to learn these lessons the hard way.
We at Priests for Life minister all the time to former abortion providers, supporters and post abortive women. We love them, and guide them to repentance and healing. And we see people who, like Abby Johnson, repent of abortion only after they have seen it face to face. Let’s hold all of them up in prayer.
